Foreign Aid

When you fly on an airplane, they tell you that if the plane depressurizes and the oxygen masks drop out of the ceiling, you put your mask on first and then you help your children with theirs. At first this may seem to be selfish, but this is so you don't pass out while trying to help your child and then you both die. When you think about it, this is common sense. You must first insure that you will remain conscious so that you can save the lives of your children.

I believe that this same approach can be taken with foreign aid. This country is broke and headed for bankruptcy, yet the politicians in Washington, D.C., are giving away BILLIONS of dollars to other countries. That is American money, paid by American citizens to the U.S. government, and should be used for the people of America.

If you want to help a foreign country out there are many legitimate charitable organizations that you can donate to. But do not insist that the money that is needed to run this country and is supposed to be used for the CITIZENS of the United States of America be given away to other countries. I believe that we should cut foreign aid by 90 or more percent. The only aid we should give should be emergency food, emergency medical, and, cautiously, emergency military aid. Instead of giving them food, educate them on how to farm. Buy American made tractors and implements and give those as aid. Pay American farmers who have lost their farms and are out of work, but still want to farm, to teach these people to grow their own food so they are no longer dependent on others. This will benefit our citizens by putting factory workers back to work and employing out-of-work farmers while also fulfilling their desire to farm even though they may have lost their family farm. We must put America first.

Instead of giving billions in HIV medicine to people in Africa who then live longer and then infect others, educate them as to how HIV is spread and inform them that it cannot be cured through sex with a virgin or whatever superstition they may have. Appeal to their patriotism or sense of humanity that for the good of their fellow man they must not have sex with a non-HIV person. I am sure there are many ways in which we can help other countries with out simply giving them money! But the easy way is to write a check using American tax dollars. Since it isn't the politicians' money, they don't care! It is time to make a difference! Get involved! Make a contribution of either your time or your money!!
