Immigration
Many people say that the U.S. is a horrible, greedy country and that is why terrorists attack us. If that were the case, one would think our citizens would be fleeing this nation as quickly as they could. In reality, people risk their lives to sneak into this country because of the freedom and job opportunities that exist here.
Unfortunately, these illegal immigrants are endangering the very freedom and job opportunities for which they are searching.
I have no problem with legal immigration, although I believe it should be suspended until the unemployment rate is below, say, 7%. It is the illegal immigrants--who are criminals because they have broken the law coming into our country illegally—with whom I have a problem. They are willing to break the law for their own personal benefit--pretty much the same motivation that every criminal has. As criminals, they need to be arrested and deported as quickly as possible. As hard working people, I feel badly for them, but they chose to break the law. They must face the consequences. They must be deported. They may apply for legal immigration and use the job experience they have gained while they were here illegally and letters of recommendation from their employers in the U.S. to help them become legal immigrants, but they still must leave.
Perhaps the most important reason for securing our borders is national security. Right now, anybody can sneak across our borders quite easily. They can (and probably do) bring drugs, guns, bombs, ammunition, diseases, etc. We must secure our borders to protect ourselves. We must do it in a financially responsible as well as an effective way. There are many different plans out there. Some are very high tech and very expensive. We need to look at all of the plans and go with the simplest, most practical, cheapest plan that will work. There is no sense spending a lot of time and money on something that does not work. The benefits of securing our borders are three-fold: 1) we protect ourselves from terrorists coming into our country; 2) we eliminate the most commonly used avenue of bringing drugs into our country; and 3) we eliminate the most commonly used way that illegal aliens enter our country and take jobs away from Americans.
In addition to making it harder for illegal aliens to enter the U.S., we must make it harder for them to stay. Welfare and other benefits should not be given to people with out a Social Security number or a legal visa that allows them to receive those benefits. No photo IDs should be given out with out proof of citizenship. No drivers’ licenses--nothing! Companies should be given a short grace period (30 days) to fire the illegal aliens. After the grace period, the people within a company who knowingly hire an illegal alien should be criminally prosecuted. The company should be fined several times the amount of the payroll taxes that would have been collected if it had been an American on their payroll. If we make it financially disadvantageous for a company to hire an illegal alien, then they won't. They are in business to make money and, unfortunately, some people are willing to break the law to get the cheaper labor. But if that cheap labor turns out to be extremely expensive, they will stop using the illegal aliens. Without jobs or welfare benefits, the illegal aliens will have less of an incentive to come here. If you agree with me on this issue of illegal aliens, then please help me get to Congress to represent you and your beliefs! Donate your time and money to the campaign and make a difference.
